Hi All,
My name is Miles,I'm very new here, and I'm in my 3rd year of study at Yoobee. At the moment we're doing a research project, and I'm researching methods of motion capture cleanup and animation, specifically answering these questions:

How do I apply that data to a rig?
What is the best way of cleaning up motion capture data?
How do I then add general animation (eg: apply the principles) over the top of the motion capture?

I'd really like to hear about what you all use professionally, and what pitfalls there are to avoid. At the moment I've been experimenting with HumanIK in Maya, using both custom rigs and the inbuilt rig generator with differing degrees of success. My main problem at the moment is the cleanup of motion capture data, and then animating over the top.

Thank you very much for your time!
:thankyou:
Miles

Hey man, I'm not sure what kind of software access you have, but if you are editing mocap you should really check out motionbuilder. Although over the past few releases Maya has been given more tools to help work with mocap data, these tools are still quite inferior to the tools available in motionbuilder. I'm not sure what I can and can't say about what we are using here at Weta so I wont say anything, but here is a blog post someone from the motion edit department wrote at the end of Avatar - http://graphicslive2009.blogspot.co.nz/ ... n-kim.html

Hi Laz,
Thanks a lot for the reply! I do have access to that, so that'll be perfect. And thanks too for the link, it's gonna be a big help.
