i am using blender and when i load a jpeg for the texture the horizontal planes are fine but the vertical walls turn into streaks when it should be a stone wall, what can i do to correct this and how can i make it look more realistic instead of looking like wall paper, i tried my best to work it out but im new to this program this is only the 4th thing i have ever made on blender i tried uv mapping, expanding the texture size and i have increased the repetition amounts, i would greatly appreciate any help that anyone could provide
thank you in advance

Texturing is a big topic. There are a number of ways you could end up with the result you have. Basically what is happening is that you're projecting the texture from above, so it looks good on those flat-to-ground planes, but gets stretched down the walls. If your textures are procedural, make sure they have "map input" settings something like this...

UV mapping is a whole 'nother process. First you need to use the UV editor to map out your character a bit like material patterns in sewing. It ends up looking something like this...

Image

Once you have correctly unwrapped your character, your "map input" needs to become "UV" instead of "Orco" and the texture in the UV editor needs to be assigned as the colour of the character (it can be other things like normals, spec etc but that is for later)

I know I haven't given you a magic button fix for your specific problem but that's because several things could give the same result. If you are still stuck, host the file somewhere and I'll look at it directly for you. (tip: I have a slow connection so see if you can turn File >> Compress File on before saving)
