Hey guys

I brought a question here about animation studio.
I have been working as animator and generalist and it's been 14 years now. I am currently working for a company but am thinking opening my animation studio for short animation and of course TV ad or film effects. I am going to start my another short animation for festivals very soon, and like to open my animation studio in NZ.

But here is a question. I have been in NZ only for 9 months, so I don't really know how to get fund for animation studio. Just for examples in South Korea and Canada, there are government department to support venture company, and also funding community from bank, big company (LG, Samsung or whatever) and also a lot route to get connection from individual fund. I was looking for that kind of resource in NZ, but can't find anything.

If you guys know any other ways or have any ideas, please let me know. You can post reply here or send me email to danielkim3d@gmail.com
Just please don't say that 'you are ridiculous, how come you don't know that?' because I really have no idea here :/

Have a great day
Daniel Kim

I don't know much about it, but for general start up companies, it's hard to find funding in NZ. You normally need a bunch of money to invest before anyone else helps you out. Or you get a bank loan... or mortgage your house... or sell some internal organs. You can apply for funding to make a short animation, but probably not to start up a small animation company.

Would be good to hear if anyone knows of such help!

Hey Worzel

Hum, kinda sad... btw, you said I can apply for funding to make a short animation. Do you know how to?
I have asked some friends of mine about this funding stuff, but most of response is that I need to have private connection to draw an individual investment : / This is kinda sad...

If anyone has an idea or know how to please post, or give me some hints

Correct me if I am wrong but I remember there was a free, government run course somewhere around Wellingtons Terrace that helped local small business entrepeneurs get started on their company.
I briefly worked for a guy doing the course who was setting up a lawn mowing buisness. From what I recall at the end of the course if they felt you're business was going to be profitable you would get some kind of grant/loan from it. And also potentially set you up with investors. I can't recall the name or where exactly this place is, but it might be this: http://www.thebusinesscentre.org.nz/

Edit: come to think of it I remember the people doing the course were sickness beneficiaries and unemployed etc... So I believe its a government scheme to get people off their asses, earn more money and therefore... pay more taxes.

So the conditions to doing the course may require you to be a NZ Citizen, etc

Good luck anyways man
