If you're reading this right now you're missing a lunar eclipse! It's only a partial eclipse, but right now it's at its darkest. Go outside and take a look.

I've been snapping shots every 5 min since 10:15. Animated gif to come once it's complete. Just wish I had a proper telephoto lens.

Good job! I completely forgot which sucks, as it was a clearish night for once. Nice to see the photos though.

I was watching TV, when I thought I'd check the forum... and saw this just as you posted it! Thanks for the heads up!

Excellent! Glad someone found the post useful. I hate finding about about this sort of thing after it happens. Also, that is an epic rendition of total eclipse there SpattR.

Unfortunately, not long after my last post, the clouds closed in and the moon simultaneously went behind the building I was shooting it from, so I didn't catch the end. I did however get enough extra photos to show how the shape of the shadow on the moon changes as the moon moves through it.

This wasn't a total eclipse, so what we're seeing here is the moon just skimming the edge of a circular shadow that is in fact much bigger than the moon. I think the animated gif shows that particularly well.

Animated gif!
