Here is a few more. Im working on composition as I think I need to do a few more 'studies' before I try tackling anything on my own again. :)
They're quick ~1hr pieces aimed to get me focused on shape, form and tone. If anyone has any tips/crits/advice fire away! I'll keep chugging along. I've been reading a bit / watching a few videos so really hoping to improve over the course of these 'studies'.

Great work Caldera! With the shield in the first image (Frank Frazetta) it looks like you've tried to add the bird-like emblem on it. I think that's screwed with your attempt to get the form right. Maybe ignore the patterns until you're more comfortable getting the form down. Not being a painter myself, I don't know what the workflow would be for creating patterns on a non-flat surface like that. Keep up the awesome work!

Thanks Worzel! Yeah, I agree with you! I was running close to my set time-limit and kinda just mushed it all together haha. It probably would have been wiser to focus on the form and deal with the pattern later! Will keep that in mind for next time. Cheers. :)

Heres another study: Again, around 1hr ish. I think it could have benefited from more time, but I also feel like the longer I went on the 'mushier' it got.

I like it! I think you're capturing the likeness quite well.

Worzel: Cheers!

Heres an experimental piece I did. Not overly happy with it but it kept getting 'muddy'.

First attempt at a digital still life... was the top of my ring. :)
Would have been fun to turn into a table/chair or something! But the perspective was off and I didnt think of that until later :P

All looking cool so far man but just a small nitpicky distinction. This is more of a lighting study than a compositional one, why? because its the most simple composition known to man. Composition is about how different elements in a scene interact with each other. If you want people to study for composition i suggest people like Guido Reni, Raphael or Caravaggio. The old masters do it best.

Its not at all bad to study people like Charles Goldie, but probably not for composition.

Ah okay thanks oatestwder!
I was just calling it composition studies because I'm following the free 'Level Up' course on ConceptArt and that's what they refer to them as! I'll start choosing pieces with more of a 'composition' element, thanks for that!
And thanks for the suggestions of people. :)

no problem man. you don't have to choose pieces with more complex composition, both are beneficial in different ways. its just always important to understand what it is your learning I've always found.

Just a traditional WIP. Haven't done an acrylic painting in years! I wish traditional mediums had a CTRL Z. :P
