Good day! So I have a bunch of creatures to make/animate so I'm going to post progress in one place. I just did a wolf animation, which I posted HERE in the finished section, but I'll put the rest here.

I've just finished a lion rig, and last night made it walk, just because I really wanted to do something with it before going to sleep! I didn't use reference, so it's a bit odd - she takes a short step, then a long step, then it repeats. And there's some leg pop etc. Next animation will be cleaner!

Animation below (or link to Vimeo here.)

More animation later.

Think I've made the chest a bit too 'solid' and 'pointy', just between his front legs... so I'll soften that off tonight.

I said "tonight", but I fixed it now! Smoother chest profile.

Amazing stuff,(poor naked Sebastian :rockin: )

I just felt Its too fast for a lion walk cycle.

Thanks dude. I didn't consider speed at all. It's definitely too fast for a casual heavy cat walk, but I'm sure a cat might walk that fast if it needed to! Hehe :P

I found some issues with the rig, and spent today fixing them. I JUST started blocking the first few poses of a better walk cycle. Actually, I plan to do a walk-to-trot tomorrow with the lion... MAYBE a run too. I'll see how I feel!

I'd really like to animate it taking down a deer or something (maybe my wolf rig), just to really test it out. If I have time I will.

But at some stage, I need to model and rig a large bird! That's next (not too far away).

Those feeds are much helpful for quadped animation. :occasion:

Lion walk and run test cycle. I watched it loop a bunch of times and saw various things wrong with it, or at least could use some improvement. Unfortunately I have no time to fix them! Lol. Paint Effects trees etc, just because...

I've figured out a few things to keep an eye on, the more important being the COG... making sure you watch that thing like a hawk... like a starving hawk. It's so easy focusing on getting the legs moving correctly and forgetting about the nice smooth movement of the COG. That'll come back to bite ya!

I won't have time right now to do any fun animations with this rig, but maybe later.

Oh, and I fabricated the tail movement. In reality (which is what my tons of reference was based on) their tails are pretty ugly in their movement - they hold them quite rigid, and they fly around really strangely visually, although apparently they're using them for balance so I guess it's working perfectly for the lion!

Next animal - some kinda large bird!

When will this end?!

Vimeo movie below the pic.

it looks nice, the timing and the movement, did you have reference for the animation?

Thanks guys!

As for reference, I don't have any one piece I followed. I have hours of downloaded video ref, mostly from Youtube. I studied how a lion starts a walk from standing, how it moves into a 'trot' from a 'walk'... how it goes into a 'run' from a 'trot'... and how it stops from a run. Walking was the easiest ref to find... since there a many safari or 'walks' with lions, there are tracks and roads with lions 'walking', so that was the clearest action to find. Then trotting & running was next easiest to find - and I'm talking about 'clear' reference here - a lot of ref is shot in long grass of course, so it's hard or impossible to see feet.

The most difficult reference to find was a lion going from a 'run' to a 'stop'... which I assume is because watching a lion run and achieve nothing is a boring vid to put on Youtube! Haha. Mostly when a lion runs it ends with some smaller animal dying! But you just need to search Youtube for "lion (walking/running etc)" and you'll see what I was dealing with! I was lucky to find some really good ref though, like even top down shots of lions walking... and some super close ups of feet lifting etc.

I've seen the bird trying to carry away the toddler vid... not a bad bit of animation! I'm looking at Condor reference now... it's a pretty big flying bird, has a bit of weight to move around.

really great work worzel.Would love to see them climbing rocks or coming down a pile or rocks. But I think those would be advanced animation,I would love to see those from you,as I am learning huge from this already.
